While I'm waiting for some real summer weather, I've been avoiding the dampness by reading:
1.
That Takes Ovaries: Bold Females & Their Brazen Acts,
which contains many true stories, one of my favorites being a 5 year old who took on her sexist teacher over
sex-segregated recess and got her principal to order an end to sex segregation!
2.
Full Frontal Feminism: A Young Woman's Guide to Why Feminism Matters;
I already thought feminism was important, but after learning that there is a law on the books in the state of
Tennessee which says that raping your wife is only a crime if she's hospitalized or you use a weapon against her,
I feel particularly fired up about feminism again.
3.
Enslaved By Ducks: How One Man Went From Head of the Household to Bottom of the Pecking
Order,
which tells the tale of Bob and his hilarious escapades with various critters who take over his home & his entire
life. (still reading this one)
4.
Slut! Growing Up Female With Bad Reputation,
is a very interesting book looking at the word "Slut" and sociology behind it. You don't realize how much the
word "Slut" is really about societal control of women (by both men and other women) until you start to really
think about.
I did venture out to
Governors Island for a 1920's jazz lawn party...in a 20's outfit to boot! Word of caution: 1920s style bonnet/hats aren't very comfortable if you're not used to wearing them, but they do keep the sun off quite effectively :3 A nice benefit of going was that I got to try St. Germain's elderflower liquor. Quite tasty, but not as good as gin!

Those are some great titles!
I am somewhat on the fence with feminism, depending on how "extreme" you see the matter! #4 looks interesting, never thought of the word in that context.
From one female scientist to another, what area are you working in? =)
@SusanGalloway - i work in water ecology/health right now...not sure how i got there LOL
They wrote a book about me!?! I definitely pulled the same maneuver on my school as the five year old in book 1, but i think I was four...
Sounds like someone was in an estrogenated revolutionary mood. :P
